Various machines are used in growing cabbage. These machines perform all sorts of tasks, such as planting, harvesting, grading and packaging.

Cabbage planting machines

As the cabbage is a vegetable with a lot of leaves, it needs a lot of space to grow - also when grown in the open field. Cabbages are usually planted at a distance of 60 - 75cm. The most commonly used brands of machinery for planting cabbage and carousel planters are Ferrari, Lauwers, Perdu, Fedele and Checchi & Magli.

The decision to choose a specific type of planting machine depends partly on whether the young cabbage plants will be planted on soil blocks or trays.

Cabbage harvesters

Cabbage can be harvested using an automatic cabbage harvester or manually using a harvesting conveyor belt. Growers often opt for the latter method (manual harvesting with a conveyor belt) to achieve the highest possible quality standard (also after storing).

Cabbage processing machines

The method used to process cabbage often depends on the requirements imposed by the customer (e.g. the supermarket). Some customers prefer their cabbage sorted by weight class, or pre-packaged (e.g. in shrink wrap). A variety of grading and packaging machines are available for this.
