About second-hand machines for Fennel
The cultivation and processing of fennel involves machinery, such as planting machines, harvesting machines, washing machines and packaging machines. When it comes to growing fennel, the use of machines is essential for fast and efficient operations. The use of machines naturally shortens the duration of work. Unfortunately, buying machinery for fennel sometimes requires a substantial investment, especially if you are considering starting to grow fennel. However, you can significantly reduce costs by opting for used machines for fennel. This will also ensure that you will have recouped the investment faster (a quicker Return on Investment), than if you were to buy new machinery for fennel. Duijndam Machines supplies high-quality used machines that you can view in detail yourself if required.
Sowing or planting fennel?
Fennel can be both planted and sown. The advantage of planting young fennel plants with a planting machine is that the fruit is ready to be harvested earlier. This is because the seed has already germinated in a tray or soil block in a heated greenhouse. Because the young fennel plant is already a bit bigger, it is also more resilient outdoors. Later in the season, direct sowing with a pneumatic seeder on the cultivation beds is an inexpensive method.
Fennel planting machine
In planting machines, the fennel is placed in the ground from a tray, as a small plant. Perdu planting machines are often used for planting fennel in soil blocks. These machines are also used for planting other vegetables grown using a tray or soil blocks, such as; broccoli, cauliflower, celery and iceberg lettuce. Useful if you grow other vegetables besides fennel!
With semi-automatic tray planting machines, you need to place the fennel plant in the machine yourself, and it then automatically plants the fennel in the ground. In a fully automatic fennel planting machine, the feeding, from the tray into the planting machine, is also done automatically.
Fennel seeder
So, besides planting machines for fennel, you can also use pneumatic seeders. These are used for numerous vegetables, such as; onions, carrots, leeks or chicory roots. As the name suggests, the seeder sows the fennel seed into the soil by means of vacuum and air pressure.
For fennel, both planting machines and seeding machines plant the fennel in several rows at once. Duijndam Machines offers different fennel planting machines, from different brands, such as Perdu, but the available selection changes constantly. Looking for a fennel planting machine? Then check out the current stock on this page now.
Fennel harvesting machines
Like planting, harvesting fennel also involves the use of different machines. To harvest fennel, you can use clamp harvesters, which can harvest fennel automatically. A blade cuts the fennel just above the ground. After which the clamp belts transport the fennel upwards. At the top of the clamp belts, the leaves are cut off the fennel, after which the fennel is placed in boxes. There are a variety of fennel harvester manufacturers such as Van den Beucken, Grimme/Asa Lift and Baekelandt. Our range of clamp harvesters for fennel changes constantly.
Machine harvesting sometimes comes at the expense of quality. Therefore, some farms opt (sometimes partially or temporarily) for manual harvesting of fennel. To do this, they use a harvesting trolley with harvesting belt.
By using the search filters, you can see the current range of harvesters for fennel.
Fennel washing machines
Fennel harvested? Then, of course, the product has to be washed. You can also do this mechanically with special washing machines for fennel. Brands of fennel washing machines sold by Duijndam Machines include Verbruggen, Verhoest, Vanhoucke, FTNON and Deman.
Packaging machines
Fennel can be packed separately with a flow pack machine. Here, we recommend choosing a horizontal flow pack machine with flat infeed conveyor, equipped with product length sensor, where the machine seals the packaging at the top, such as an Ulma Sienna (Formerly PV350). This ensures that the fennel, regardless of its length, sits nicely in the packaging and the seal rollers do not come into contact with the product and any moisture.
