About second-hand machines for Tomatoes

Many different varieties of tomatoes are available in supermarkets today, from extra-sweet tomatoes to robust beefsteak tomatoes, and from vine tomatoes to cherry tomatoes. Whether or not a particular machine is suitable for a certain variety of tomato depends on its size and vulnerability to damage. Additionally, a distinction can be made between tomatoes grown in greenhouses or outdoors.

Pipe-rail trolleys for tomatoes

The heating pipes of the greenhouse can be used as rails across which both crop care pipe rail trolleys and tomato harvesting pipe rail trolleys are conveyed. When selecting a pipe-real trolley the distance between the wheels must be equal to the distance between the pipe-rail pipes.

Grading and processing machines

After picking, the fresh tomatoes are prepared for delivery to supermarkets and wholesalers. Tomatoes can be processed in packaging and grading lines that are composed of a number of interlinked machines. These include harvest cart emptying machines, washing machines, drying machines, grading machines, packaging machines and palletisers.

Grading machines based on weight and colour

Bulk tomatoes are generally graded according to weight and colour. Grading machines may vary depending on specifications such as the type of tomato, the capacity and options such as automatic weighing or filling of the boxes. Be sure to inquire after the specifications when purchasing machines like these!

The capacity is determined by the speed of the machine and the number of lines. Additionally, a maximum capacity can be achieved through the maximum filling of the number of cups. This can be achieved by a uniform flow rate. Tomatoes can move through the line ‘dry’ on a conveyor belt or ‘wet’, in which they are transported through water channels by means of a current. After the tomatoes have been taken out of the water by an elevator, they are dried by a sponge dryer and subsequently graded.

Vine tomato weighing system

Vine tomatoes are processed differently from bulk tomatoes. These tomatoes are placed directly in boxes or crates during the harvesting process. After this, the boxes are weighed at a central location to achieve the desired weight per box. A system that unloads the boxes from the harvesting carts is frequently used here. Next, the boxes are transported to the weighing stations at the end of conveyor belts.

Packaging machines for tomatoes

Not only does packaging ensure that tomatoes are bundled and for a longer shelf life, packaging has also become an integral part of marketing and communication. Consumers increasingly want to be informed about the content and origin of the products they buy. Packaging also makes it easier for retailers to communicate the distinguishing characteristics of their products.

As a result, there are various types and sizes of tomato packaging machines. Tomatoes can be packaged in flowpack, nets, buckets or trays. We regularly have used flowpack machines for tomatoes and weighing machines for cherry tomatoes in stock.
