We are constantly looking for good quality agricultural and horticultural machinery.

About second-hand machines for Leek

Machines can be used to enable a variety of leek cultivation and processing operations to be executed mechanically. This can replace a great deal of manual labour. In other situations machines simplify and assist physical labour in operations that require a great deal of accuracy or where the crop is susceptible to damage, such the planting and washing leeks.

The following machines are used for the cultivation of leeks: planters, dibbling machines, row fertilisers, hoeing machines, vibration lifters and automatic and manually operated top clamp belt harvesters.

After harvesting, leeks are cut on length, washed and cleaned on a leek processing line. After that, the outer leaves can also be removed manually, if desired.

Why use second hand machines to grow and process leeks?

In most cases, investing in used machinery for the cultivation and processing of leeks is a wise decision. Thanks to the lower prices paid for used machinery, it will take less time to earn back your investment. This may be a great advantage, particularly in times of economic uncertainty. The short payback time will also give growers enough financial leeway to invest in the automation of other processes of leek production.

However, used machinery could also be an excellent solution for leek growers who wish to mechanise their manual processes but only have a limited scale of operations, as is often the case with organic farms or leek growers just starting out.

If you have any questions about the used leek cultivation and processing machinery below, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Leek planting machines

Not only are leeks widely used in the kitchen, they are also flexible in the field. Indeed, leeks can be planted between March and August, and are harvestable after 3 to 9 months, depending on the season in which they are planted and the desired length of the harvested leeks. This allows the leeks to be harvested all year round, so they are always fresh.

A leek planting machine or a leek punching machine is used to plant leeks. The advantage of the leek planting machine is that planting can be done smoothly and ergonomically. The advantage of making planting holes with a leek punching machine is that the leeks can often be planted deeper and straighter. In some regions, the longer the white part of the leek is, the better it is valued in price and quality. All leek planting machines we currently have in stock can be found here.

Besides planting, it is also possible to sow leeks with a pneumatic vegetable seeder.

Soil tillage machines for leek

As with many vegetables, the conditions in which the leek plant grows determine the result. For a beautiful, healthy and consistent product, it is important that the soil is properly tilled so that leeks can grow in the most favourable conditions. So before the planting of leeks can begin, the soil needs to be properly tilled.

To best prepare the bed in which the leeks will grow, various tillage machines, such as spading machines and tillers, are used when growing leeks.

After the leeks are planted, it is important to keep the plot free of weeds. This can be done with the use of hoeing machines or inter row rotavators. In addition, inter row rotavators can also be equipped with ridgers, which provide additional soil to the leek plants. This also makes the leeks whiter.

Leek harvesting machines

Three to nine months after planting, it is already time to harvest the leeks. Exactly when it is time to harvest depends on the season, the variety and the desired thickness of the leeks. Harvesting leeks can be automatic these days, making the job quick and efficient. Two different machines can be used for harvesting; clamp harvesters with manual or automatic filling of leek racks.

Before the clamp harvesters harvest the leeks, they first cut the leaves to size. By means of brushes, the leaves are moved up and cut to a pre-set size. The leeks are then lifted out of the ground by a harvester and by means of a clamp belt. The current range of leek harvesters can be found here.

Leek washing machines

Before the leeks can be sold, there is one final step in the processing of leeks; washing the product. Leek washing machines are used for this. Leek washing machines are specially made to wash and trim leeks using blades, water sprayers and brushes. These brushes with hard peeling fingers remove (partly) the outer leaves of the leeks. On the output belt, the leeks are still manually checked for loose leaves.
