About second-hand machines for Gingers

The cultivation of ginger is growing rapidly worldwide and is increasingly supported by mechanization, especially to improve efficiency in labor-intensive phases such as planting, crop care, harvesting and post-harvest processing. The process starts with planting ginger rhizomes, which is increasingly carried out using customized planting machines that ensure consistent depth and spacing. Some growers use specially designed belt or gravity systems to gently place the delicate roots into the trench without causing damage.

During the growing period, weed control is critical. Row weeders with camera or GPS guidance are used to keep rows clean without harming young plants. Ginger requires optimal humidity and soil structure, which is managed through automated irrigation systems, often with drip or sprinkler control. Mulching or ridging is also done mechanically using hoeing and ridge-forming machines.

Harvesting is the most critical phase. Ginger is dug up using adapted harvesters such as chain lifters or elevator harvesters with soft tines to prevent root damage. Some systems use vibrating teeth and rubber belts to gently lift the rhizomes without bruising. The ginger is then collected manually or via a conveyor belt into crates.

For cleaning, various solutions exist such as immersion washers and brush washers, sometimes with added mild disinfectants. After washing, ginger is often dried or placed directly into cold storage. Sorting is done by length, thickness and weight using graders that can be calibrated by size. Optical sorters detect discoloration or defects.

Packaging is handled by weighing systems and portioning machines tailored for foodservice or retail. Flow packers, tray sealers and net packaging machines are used to present ginger in different formats, such as fresh, peeled or dried. Companies that invest in these systems benefit from lower labor costs, higher processing speed and extended product shelf life.
