About second-hand Knife peeling machines

After harvesting, vegetables and fruits are often further processed before they are ready for sale. This includes cutting into specific shapes like slices, fries, or cubes using slicing machines, packaging to extend shelf life using flow-pack packaging machines, or washing with vegetable washing machines.

However, many products first need to be peeled before they can be further processed. This task is very labor-intensive by hand, so in vegetable and fruit cultivation, it is done mechanically with peelers and scrapers. Whether you need a peeler or a scraper depends largely on the type of product you want to peel.

As more vegetables and fruits are processed before reaching the consumer, processing machines such as peelers and scrapers have become more popular. Yet, these machines are new and expensive to purchase, potentially resulting in long return on investment (ROI) periods for growers. Consequently, demand for second-hand peelers and scrapers has significantly increased in recent years. Typically, these machines are durable, with parts subject to wear, like blades, easily replaceable.

On this page, you'll find all the used peelers and scrapers currently in our inventory. Each specific peeler or scraper machine page provides detailed information and photos. If you have any questions or wish to speak with one of our advisors, please feel free to contact us so we can personally assist you in determining the best peeler and/or scraper machine for your needs.

Difference Between Peelers and Scrapers

Although both peelers and scrapers remove the peel from harvested produce, there is a significant difference between the two machines. Scrapers remove the peel from vegetables and fruits using a rotating scraping disk or blade. This rotating motion gradually removes the peel in small pieces. While scrapers can also be equipped with blade peelers instead of a scraping disk, they still fall under the category of scrapers.

Peelers, on the other hand, use knives that move along the product in even strokes to peel it for a clean result. Polishers are then used to make the peeled products smooth again.

Scrapers

Scrapers, whether with scraping disks or blade peelers, gradually clean the product and are mainly used for vegetables such as potatoes, tubers, beets, and carrots. They come in large sizes where products are automatically fed through a conveyor belt, but also in smaller versions where batches can be manually fed, peeling the product in just a few minutes.

Scrapers come in two main types: equipped with blades or with a scraping disk. Scraping disks are often made of carborundum (abrasive grains), which is highly wear-resistant. Scrapers are often equipped with water inlet and outlet to ensure clean products leave the machine while peels are disposed of.

Peelers

As the name suggests, peelers remove the peel from the product rather than scraping it. Peelers are mainly used for fruits such as mangoes, oranges, pineapples, as well as vegetables like asparagus.

Unlike scrapers, peelers are often larger and more complex machines designed for peeling specific products. However, their operation is similar; the vegetable or fruit is impaled on a rod that rotates rapidly, while a peeling knife moves horizontally, peeling the product from left to right.

These machines can often be extensively adjusted for product type, speed, and thickness of peel.

Asparagus Peelers

Vegetables that always require peeling before they can be sold include asparagus. Asparagus peelers can quickly remove the tough outer skin of (white) asparagus so they are immediately ready for sale. Some models push the asparagus along the knives to peel them, while others keep the asparagus still while the knives move along it.
