About second-hand Potting machines
Javo, Stolze, Mayer (Visser), Willburg, Heto en Demtec are the most important suppliers of potting machines. The manufacturers supply potting machines for various purposes in market gardening. The machines differ mainly in capacity, adjustability and design. Potting machines can run for years without problems. For this reason many growers consider the choice of a second-hand machine a sensible investment.
Operation of the potting machines
Empty pots are put in the pot holders by hand or using a pot-placing machine. The pot holders are mounted on a wheel or chain conveyor and are then moved under the opening to the potting compost filler. The pots are evenly filled with potting compost. The surplus potting compost is removed by a levelling unit and returned again to the potting compost supply. The pots then move to the compression-drill unit which then makes a hole. If the potting machine has automatic pot removal, the pots are automatically placed on the conveyor belt. Work is most efficient when the potting machine is used in combination with plant robots, compost supply systems and pot plant conveyor systems.
The possibilities of a potting machine depend on the type and design which we will try to describe as fully as possible. Although the standard properties could differ from what is possible in some cases. Sometimes larger pot sizes are used than shown in the first instance. Every other one is then potted using of a drill interrupter.
Contact our sales persons for this and other options. Here you will find the current list of all the second-hand potting machines that Duijndam Machines has for sale.
Javo potting machine
One of the most well-known manufacturers of potting machines is Javo. Javo potting machines are reliable and can last for years without much worry. Therefore, Javo potting machines are also highly sought-after machines to buy used.
At Duijndam Machines, we generally have various machines from Javo in stock. From simple potting machines, to elaborate filling systems for large pots, for example. Besides potting machines, Javo also produces other machines that can be used in the (re)potting of plants, such as soil bunkers and buffer belts. By combining several machines, the system can be made as simple or extensive as desired.
You can find all used potting machines from Javo here.
Pot fork
From the buffer belt or plant transport belt after the potting machine, pot forks can be used for deploying the pots in the container field. These pot forks allow multiple pots to be picked up at once. Depending on the type, some the pot forks can also set the pots wider apart or closer together.
Frequently asked questions about Potting Machines
What types of pots are potting machines suitable for?
Most pots used in nurseries are made of plastic. To allow these pots to be properly destacked using a pot dispenser, it is important that they have a sturdy rim and provide enough space for the pusher to separate the pots from each other.
Almost all potting machines are suitable for filling pots of various sizes. The method of switching to a different pot size varies depending on the type of machine. On some models, the pot holders are easily adjustable, while other machines use interchangeable holders for different pot sizes.
Each potting machine has a maximum pot diameter it can handle. Therefore, when purchasing a potting machine, it is essential to determine the largest pot size you want to process and ensure that it falls within the machine's capabilities. The product pages of the specific machines always list the maximum pot diameter.
What types of plants can I pot with this machine?
What is the maximum production speed per hour?
The maximum production speed per hour varies greatly depending on the specific machine and the pot sizes you use. For example, some machines can handle production rates ranging from 600 to 6,000 pots per hour. Potting machines with a dual setup and template fillers generally offer higher capacity.
Can I adjust the machine for non-standard pot sizes or shapes?
Some machines can be adjusted to accommodate specific pot sizes or shapes, but this is not always the case. If you need a potting machine for a particular size or shape, please contact us, and we will help you find the most suitable machine for your needs.
Which parts of a potting machine wear out the fastest, and are spare parts available?
-
Does Duijndam Machines offer service contracts or support?
No, at Duijndam Machines we do not offer service contracts or on-site external service. All machines we supply are thoroughly inspected and tested before delivery, allowing us to guarantee their quality and functionality. For on-site service or support, it is best to contact the manufacturer's service network.
What is the delivery time for a potting machine from the moment of ordering?
Most potting machines are available for immediate delivery. In some cases, it is even possible to pick up the machine shortly after payment. Do you need the potting machine quickly? Feel free to ask us about the expected delivery time.
What warranties does Duijndam Machines provide for its potting machines?
Machines are delivered in good working order but without warranty. Our mostly pre-owned machines are thoroughly inspected by our buyers and technicians, including functional tests where possible. Non-functioning parts are repaired or replaced as needed.
Can I lease or rent the potting machine?
Leasing or renting a potting machine is not possible at Duijndam Machines. Our potting machines are only available for purchase.
Can I use a pot dispenser to insert used pots into the potting machine?
Reusing pots can be both a circular and economically attractive option. However, manufacturers recommend using new pots. This is because using used pots can cause problems during insertion if the pots are too tightly nested together. As a result, the pots may not slide apart (on time). This can happen if the pots stick together due to dirt, are pressed too tightly into each other, or are deformed.
If you still want to work with automatically inserting used pots, choose a potting machine with a dispenser that pushes the pots apart from both sides. Thanks to the dual pushers, force is applied on both sides of the pot, making it easier to separate them. Alternatively, you can opt to insert the used pots manually.
What is the most important component of a potting machine to pay attention to when purchasing?
The most important component to assess the technical condition of a potting machine is the soil elevator chain or soil wheel. Replacing a soil elevator chain or soil wheel is an expensive repair, typically costing between €1,500 and €3,000 depending on the type. The soil wheel also serves as a good indicator of how intensively the machine has been used. All parts and exact costs can be obtained from the manufacturer or your local dealer.
