The aim of a bed former is to shape the growing beds with good soil structure. Due to the use of growing beds there are very little differences in stability, crumbling and water management. In addition, the bed former is characterised by a splendid mixed operation and fine finishing, all to foster the growth.

Ultimate seed bed

As such, the bed former ensures a finely finished seed bed. The resulting seed bed is often more homogenous that when using a common spindle machine, as a result of which accurate seeding is possible with a subsequent more homogenous development. 

Operation

There are different types of bed formers available, but in general a bed former is constructed of two rotating axles, where the front axle with blades rotates in the same direction as the moving tractor. This spindle curtails the soil without smoothening the substrate, thanks to the shallow slope of the blades.

The rear rotary spade with teeth rotates in opposite direction. As a result, the lumps will break, while the soil is planed and flattened.

Spindle with diabolo roll

In some cases, a bed former is also executed with a diabolo roll. This smooth roll also rotates in opposite direction. This way the diabolo roll ensures that the top side of the bed can be additionally smoothed.
