Urbinati tray filling machines

The Urbinati tray filling machines can be used for filling different types of trays with soil. These trays are used within plant nurseries when growing young plants from seed or cuttings.

Urbinati has a range of different types of tray fillers, each with their specific characteristics in terms of soil supply. In most types of tray filling machines, a conveyor belt is used to feed the tray under a soil bin. This way, the trays are filled with soil and a rotating rotor then presses the soil. A brush is used to wipe excess soil from the tray for a neat result. The excess soil usually returns to the tray filler’s soil bin.

By sliding cover plates and adjusting the height of the ground tray, Urbinati's tray fillers are easy to use for different types of trays, such as plug trays, multicell trays or sets of pots and seed trays.

Tray seeders

Urbinati's tray seeders can be used to sow a variety of seeds of flowers, plants and vegetables in trays. Often, tray seeders are part of a seeding line, preparing trays for cultivation in the greenhouse in one pass. Such a seeding line consists of a tray filler, dibbler, tray seeder, spreader and a watering station. Urbinati supplies both individual seeders and complete seed lines.

When selecting a suitable type of tray seeder, the seeding drum or seeding bar should be matched to the type of tray and seed. If you are using different kinds of seeds and trays, then the seed bars and seed drums often need to be changed.

Most tray seeders use pneumatics, where the seed is picked up by vacuum and sown into the tray. Single or double seeding, vacuum strength and release strength can be adjusted so that the seeder can be very finely tuned. This technique ensures accurate and reliable results.

Urbinati pneumatic tray seeders can be equipped with nozzles / needles or with a drum or plate system.

Pneumatic nozzle seeders, such as Urbinati's SEMKAPPA65, vacuum 1 seed per needle (nozzle) and release it into the pot or tray cell. Needle seeders are best used for seeding small lots, because this type of tray seeder is relatively easy to convert.

The SEMLAMBDA65 from Urbinati is a pneumatic drum seeder. This sucks in the seed through small holes on a seeding drum. The drum rotates in the opposite direction of the seeding belt and releases the seed into the tray cell or pot. Drum seeding machines are suitable for larger seeding series (higher capacity). A drum seeder can also be used to sow heavier types of seed.
