Most tray seeders utilize pneumatic systems, where the seeds are picked up and sown in the trays using vacuum suction. Single or double seeding, vacuum strength, and blow-off strength can be adjusted, allowing for precise tuning of the seeder. This technique ensures accurate and reliable results.

TRAY SEEDING MACHINES WITH NOZZLES AND NEEDLES

Pneumatic needle seeders, such as the Visser Granette, vacuum one seed per needle (nozzle) and blow it off into the pot or tray cell. The seed bars are adjusted to fit the trays, and the seeds are sucked from an open vibrating seed container. By placing different needles or nozzles on the seed bar, various types of seeds can be sown in the trays. Needle seeders are most suitable for sowing small batches, as this type of tray seeding machine is relatively easy to convert.

TRAY SEEDING MACHINES WITH DRUMS

A pneumatic drum seeder picks up the seeds through small holes in a seeding drum (seed roller). The drum rotates in the opposite direction of the seeding belt and blows the seeds into the tray cell or pot. Many drum seeders also have a blowing function to clean the small holes. The drums are tailored to the dimensions of the tray and the size of the seed. Drum seeding machines are suitable for larger seeding operations (higher capacity). They can also handle heavier types of seeds.
