About second-hand Weight grading machines
When the product is harvested and crops are grown, it is necessary to sort them properly so that the consumer or buyer receives products of the desired weight.
Consumers are picky and prefer only beautiful vegetables and fruits. They often leave vegetables and fruits that are damaged, very small, or excessively large. To prevent this, it is necessary to sort your harvest accurately and quickly. There are various types of sorting machines for this purpose. There are optical sorting machines that sort based on the quality of the product, such as damage, color, or even taste. There are also weight sorting machines that sort based on, you guessed it, weight.
If your current sorting machine needs replacement or you are switching to a new crop and require a different weight sorting machine, you are looking at a significant investment that is often slowly recovered. Fortunately, you can also opt for used weight sorting machines from Duijndam Machines. This is a considerably cheaper but reliable solution if you are in the market for a weight sorting machine.
On this page, you will find an overview of all the second-hand weight sorting machines we currently have in stock. Below, you can read more about these machines. If you have any questions or interest in a specific weight sorting machine, feel free to contact us; we are happy to assist you!
Various types of sorting machines
Weight sorting machines, like vegetables and fruits themselves, come in various types and sizes. Examples include potato sorting machines, fruit and apple sorting machines, and cucumber sorting machines. Due to the different shapes of vegetables and fruits, each harvest has its own sorting machine. However, vegetables and fruits with similar shapes can often be sorted using the same machine. For instance, zucchinis and eggplants can often be sorted with a cucumber sorting machine, and pears can also be sorted with an apple sorting machine. When purchasing a weight sorting machine, it is important to determine what you want to sort with it.
Additionally, you can make sorting as simple or as elaborate as you want. There are relatively simple mechanical weight sorting machines for sorting limited quantities easily. In our offering, you can also find advanced weight sorting solutions that not only automatically sort products into different pre-set weights but also internally check for spoilage and, for example, sugar content.
How a weight sorting machine works
A weight sorting machine accurately weighs the product using a load cell. These generally have a deviation of only a few grams. The weight classes are usually adjustable through the system's computer. This allows you to sort products into different sizes, such as small, medium, and large mangoes.
Once the weight classes are set, the machine will weigh each product individually. Anything below or above the desired weight will automatically be directed to the excess output, also known as the +1 output. Or, in the case of different weights, they will be directed to the next weight class.
Weight sorting machines with cups and product carriers
There are basically two types of systems that weight sorting machines use: cups, also called product carriers, or weigh belts.
Cups are used for smaller fruits and vegetables, such as apples, pears, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, avocados, but also pumpkins. The products are sorted so that each cup or product carrier transports only one piece. Subsequently, these are guided over different belts, where the cup opens or tilts when the belt with the corresponding weight is reached. This way, cucumbers with a set weight of 400 g end up together, those with 500 g on the next belt, and those with 600 g on the subsequent one.
Weight sorting machines based on weigh belts
For larger products, such as broccoli and cabbages, weigh belts are often used. In these machines, the product to be sorted travels over a conveyor belt, with a load cell underneath that precisely weighs the products and directs them to the correct destinations.
Some weight sorting machines can also be added at the output of a sorting line to function as a weighing machine.
