About second-hand Plastic foil & mulch planting machine

Foil planting machines can be used for various fruits and vegetables. Using foil has several advantages such as weed control, but one of the biggest advantages is the microclimate you can create.

Before you can plant through foil, foil must first be laid on the ground. Many foil-laying machines are stand-alone tools, but there are also foil-planting machines that both lay and plant foil. These are machines where the foil harvester is integrated with the planting machine. The foil layer applies the foil to the ground and makes sure the sides are dug in, creating a tight layer of foil.

How does a foil planting machine work?

A vertical carousel with planting cups pokes a hole in the film without tearing it any further. Once the planting cup is at the bottom of the soil, the planting cup opens, allowing the young plant to be planted in this hole. This works for things like courgettes, pumpkins, melons, aubergines, peppers, sweet potatoes and lettuce.

Foil planting machines can handle not only plastics such as polyethylene, but also more environmentally friendly options such as biodegradable plastic. Most foil planting machines are trailed, but there are also self-propelled foil planting machines.

Main advantages of growing with foil

There are several reasons why you might grow vegetables or fruit in foil. One of the biggest advantages is that you can create the microclimate that best suits the crop you are growing. For example, black foil makes the soil warmer, allowing you to plant your crops earlier in the season. Spring vegetables such as lettuce and spinach can be planted up to three weeks earlier as a result. Transparent or white foil, on the other hand, in turn provides cooling. Thus, the different characteristics of different types of foils allow you to extend the farming season.

In addition, the use of plastic foil counteracts weed growth. Weeds can be bad or even harmful to your seedlings, but by using plastic foil, weeds will not have a chance to grow.
